Horizontal Laminar Flow

The HP Strainer’s patented horizontal laminar flow design allows water to travel through the unit in a smooth, continuous path rather than being forced through abrupt changes in direction. By maintaining a more direct flow path and utilizing its dual-basket configuration, the HP Strainer minimizes flow disruption while efficiently separating debris from the water stream. 

 

Limited Debris Protection

The HP Strainer’s LDP is specifically designed to capture large bags, rags, plastic sheeting, and other oversized debris before they can block the filtration baskets or significantly restrict flow. Located at the influent side of the strainer, the Bag Grabber’s toothed design intercepts bulky debris and guides it along the interior walls of the housing,  rather than allowing it to collapse across the filtration area and clog water flow.

Dual Conical Baskets

The HP Strainer features dual conical baskets designed to maintain efficient water flow as debris accumulates. A wedge-shaped profile at the effluent directs captured material toward the corners and sides of each basket, helping keep the primary flow path open and minimizing restriction as the baskets load. This design allows the HP to handle 4X the debris load between cleanings and a uniform water flow to the pump.

 

Manual Cleaning (Horizontal)

When installed in a horizontal mounting position, the HP Strainer is designed for quick, convenient access during routine cleaning and maintenance. Easy turning handwheels allow the access doors to be opened and secured without the need for tools, reducing the time required to service the strainer. Once opened, the doors provide a convenient working surface where dirty baskets can be placed for cleaning, keeping them supported and close to the unit.

Auto Air Evacuation

The HP Strainer’s automatic air evacuation design continuously  eliminates trapped air that can accumulate within the strainer.  By reducing air accumulation, the HP Strainer helps minimize the risk of pump cavitation, vibration, and unnecessary wear while maintaining consistent flow through the system. The result is improved reliability, greater operating efficiency, and enhanced protection for pumps and other critical equipment.

Dual-Basket Design

The HP Strainer’s dual-basket design provides significantly more open filtration area than conventional single-basket strainers. By distributing flow across two baskets, the HP Strainer can accommodate higher flow rates while maintaining lower pressure loss. The increased available surface area helps to extend maintenance intervals and reduce system downtime.

 

Horizontal / Vertical Mounting Options

The HP Strainer offers flexible horizontal or vertical mounting with integrated hardware that provides a secure, stable installation without the need for additional supports or field-fabricated solutions. Unlike traditional pot strainers, which are generally limited to a fixed floor-mounted orientation, the HP Strainer can adapt to tighter equipment rooms and varied piping layouts while maintaining proper alignment and full access for inspection, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
 
 

Vertical Mount Auto-Clean

When installed vertically, the HP Strainer can be configured for convenient backwash cleaning without removing the baskets. During normal operation, debris enters through the influent line and collects on the strainer screens. As debris builds, an increase in pressure differential indicates that cleaning is required. The lower valve is then redirected to the waste discharge line while the upper valve is switched to allow water from the pool to flow backward through the strainer. This reverse flow washes accumulated debris from the screens and carries it directly into the waste line.
